What do you regret revisiting - such as re-reading/watching/listening/etc something that you liked when you were younger but feel differently now?

Pretty much everything from the eighties and nineties. It is always a game of waiting for the out of nowhere surprise transphobic or homophobic moment.

Early series of the Doctor Who reboot (mainly David Tennant's era). I do like a handful of episodes and a lot of the characters; but after a recent rewatch going up to Matt Smith being introduced - I kind of wished that I didn't ruin my own nostalgia. Which surprised me since I have been enjoying watching the classic episodes that have their own problems - but I didn't like the whole Rose/Doctor thing and HATE how they treated Martha (although lol good on her for being like 'Yeah I'm done, bye' in the last episode - but wasn't a fan of the one-sided romance thing).

Did enjoy Catherine Tate as his companion and the specials, but I'm taking a break before I get started on Matt Smith's era.

x1000 on the Martha Stuff (resident Martha fan -- one of us, I'm guessing)

I'm starting to think how shitty 10 treated her is why I shipped her with the Master (Simms, although I could do the other dude who came after the lady) -- other than my hero/villain kick that I'm always on.

But Eccelston was great and so was Donna. I think I just like the Doctor being the Doctor. Like do not pair him with anyone except another time lord or his foil. Especially avoid his companions. I think that's why Rose and 10 annoyed me so much.

I remember loving The Neverending Story when I was a kid, hated it when I rewatched it as an adult. It was so boring. Same for The Princess Bride, I thought it was really funny when I was a kid but as an adult it was really meh. There's a few quotes that are fun but overall I found it really dull and the male and female leads really fucking bland.

Funny those are two that really hold up for me, but (as mentioned above somewhere) The Dark Crystal was an absolute bore. It's funny how slow paced movies used to be. And sometimes it still works for me, and sometimes my attention span is just shot and I do not care.

Though I think a lot about if I were to watch those new would I still fall in love, or is it pure nostalgia that is keeping the love alive for me.

Yeah it's funny how it works because I still very much The Dark Crystal, but I absolutely recognise that it's very slow, plodding and honestly just fucking weird as hell. But something about it keeps me engaged.

You're right about movies back then being paced differently, and it either works for us or doesn't.

I think The Dark Crystal is to me what Fantasia is to a lot of people. By which I mean that it's a technical masterpiece and absolutely gorgeous and fascinating to watch, and the plot (which is admittedly slow paced and also All The Tropes) is kind of secondary to that. That said, I personally find Fantasia to be boring as all get out, so I can't hold others' opinions against them either way.

I loved The Princess Bride as a little kid, but I didn't get that it was a comedy. I thought it was the thing it was parodying, a fantasy-adventure romance. Then I thought it was hilarious when I rewatched it when I was older.

Dungeons & Dragons (1983 Animated TV Series)

I cannot believe kid me liked it. So annoying to me as an adult, especially Uni and Bobby. The premise was always weird, but that wasn't that unusual for an 80s cartoon, but the plots and most character interaction left me cold when I revisited it. I would much rather stick with my hazy nostalgic memories of it than the reality presented in my rewatch.

Man, yes, those noises.

Bobby was annoying to me as a child, and Uni only got a pass because she was a unicorn. (That myeeeh noise though. Why, Frank Welker? Why?) The surprise annoying character to me was Hank.

I can see that about Hank. After the annoying things, what most surprised me was how much I was like, fuck, Eric has a point, you should listen to him. I mean, I kind of liked him as a kid because he was funny, but I kind of thought of him as a coward given how he was presented, and now, I'm just all, yeah, maybe you should just leave some of those things alone, and maybe you shouldn't go in there, and maybe there is a better (less dangerous) way.

I thought Firesign Theater albums were hilarious when I was in high school, I recently relistened to them and didn't even laugh except at one joke.
