I remember loving The Neverending Story when I was a kid, hated it when I rewatched it as an adult. It was so boring. Same for The Princess Bride, I thought it was really funny when I was a kid but as an adult it was really meh. There's a few quotes that are fun but overall I found it really dull and the male and female leads really fucking bland.

Funny those are two that really hold up for me, but (as mentioned above somewhere) The Dark Crystal was an absolute bore. It's funny how slow paced movies used to be. And sometimes it still works for me, and sometimes my attention span is just shot and I do not care.

Though I think a lot about if I were to watch those new would I still fall in love, or is it pure nostalgia that is keeping the love alive for me.

Yeah it's funny how it works because I still very much The Dark Crystal, but I absolutely recognise that it's very slow, plodding and honestly just fucking weird as hell. But something about it keeps me engaged.

You're right about movies back then being paced differently, and it either works for us or doesn't.

I think The Dark Crystal is to me what Fantasia is to a lot of people. By which I mean that it's a technical masterpiece and absolutely gorgeous and fascinating to watch, and the plot (which is admittedly slow paced and also All The Tropes) is kind of secondary to that. That said, I personally find Fantasia to be boring as all get out, so I can't hold others' opinions against them either way.

I loved The Princess Bride as a little kid, but I didn't get that it was a comedy. I thought it was the thing it was parodying, a fantasy-adventure romance. Then I thought it was hilarious when I rewatched it when I was older.
