Maybe people are tired of the fact that every time a character is recast they have to be black or female. Clearly box ticking in many cases but the casting directors gush how they were the perfect choice. See also Captain America, Little Mermaid, Cleopatra, Doogie Kameāloha as just a few examples.
Notice not so much hate for Miles Morales because he is not replacing the existing character.

Except that the Doctor is literally made to be "replaced" regularly. There's nothing that says they have to be a white man forever (literally forever, this is a time travel show)

I just wish they had chosen an Asian actor for once. I don't really mind him being black but considering the POC minority numbers in Britain and the huge amount of discrimination Asian actors face when it comes to casting any role that isn't a full on stereotype, just once it would have been nice to see an Asian actor get prefential treatment.

Yeah, both subcontinental and HK-Chinese POC vastly outnumber black people in the UK, for obvious colonial reasons. Why no representation?

The Falcon is a longstanding comic character who, yes, has carried the Captain America shield. He's not a sudden 'woke' choice, my guy.

There are 478 straight white male main characters this year?? Last year I had 480! The world has gone WOKE! /s

Are you really here doing the “it’s forced diversity, and I definitely speak for the majority when I say diversity is bad and everyone hates it” routine?

The list of characters like this isn’t much longer than the few examples you chose, compared to the list of examples where the character’s race or gender remains the same. The majority of the time that a character that was a white man is recast, they cast another white man. So “every time a character is recast they have to be black or female” is untrue. That’s just a panic certain people have that they’re not always being the only ones portrayed as the main characters in media anymore, as if that’s a bad thing, but it’s not grounded in reality that there’s no more straight white cis male characters. And the first part of that sentence “Maybe people are tired”, only describes certain people, not the majority. Like comicsgaters who think they speak for everyone when they say “Comics are being ruined by wokeness because more comics are being written by women, and don’t star white people and men as often as they used to! And I’ll ignore all the times that happened before the 21st century, because then I can’t blame it on wokeness. Or I’ll say that those examples don’t count because of who wrote them.”

And it might not be as bad as it used to be, but you chose a bad example in Miles Morales. There was a lot of pushback and hate thrown out for the character when he first came out, from the expected people. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t “replacing” Peter Parker, in the way you’d describe a choice to hypothetically make Peter Parker black. It didn’t even matter that Peter Parker still had comics, cartoons, and movies starring him as Miles was introduced alongside them. He was still the new, black Spider-Man. And some people were very vocal in not liking that. It’s thankfully died down, but there’s still some people who continue to hate his existence. Like the aforementioned comicsgaters, who predicted that Into the Spiderverse was going to bomb and be bad solely because Miles was the star.

There was *a lot* of hate when Miles Morales was first announced in the comics. Certain sets of fans do not like change of any sort.

yes, feels like box ticking. Why UK box ticks black actors tho. Weird. Indian or asian would make more sense.
