Hah, I feel like I've seen the near opposite- no one cares about him, they only care about Tennant.

I'm not a big Who person, but I think the fact that they announced Ncuti Gatwa and then almost immediately went SIKE, LMAO actually we're doing Tennant 2.0! was kind of a jerk move. Maybe they were trying to forestall criticism of him by distracting the fanbase with David Tennant forever, but I feel like it's going to make it even harder for his Doctor, following that up. I feel like most of the Who fans I know are biased against anyone who dares distract from their forever-fave.
