What genre would you like to see more of?

(Anonymous) 2023-06-07 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Secret 7 got me thinking. I've always wanted more sitcom supernatural or fantasy shows. Stargate sort of did this with some good comedy episodes and general humor, but I'd love to see just a straight up sitcom. Like Friends but...idk, elves and ghosts or set in space or something.

I just want more horror that isn't "technology is scary" or weirdly sexual.

For fantasy-horror.
More fantasy set in different sorts of cultures. Not just modern-day or medieval Europe.
More comedy-fantasy or scifi like Galavant, Mystery Men, or Galaxy Quest.
More Lovecraftian-style fantasy and/or horror and/or scifi
More shows with time travel or space ship or wormhole or whatever where we explore a different time or place every episode.
Some kind of post-apocalypse thing where the apocalypse isn't a plague or zombies.

Most fundamentally, episodic / procedural canons where a large cast of characters tries to solve episodic problems with a genre twist, whether it's horror, fantasy or sci-fi.

It is the perfect plot structure and ambience for me, and there used to be a ton of these shows, and now there are far fewer, and I hate it.

So agreed. I don't mind if a seasonal theme is stuck in there or a few through-threads. But please give us more episodic tv shows.

Yes. I miss shows where they aren't assuming you are binging them all at once and so they set it up like a movie broken into 12 episodes.

Personally I'd like more shows that have people with supernatural abilities but are always in regular clothes. They are also disconnected from others like themselves and have to do mundane things like try to get promotions at work or something.

(Barring that, I'd love a show with an omniscient main character whose main plot arcs involve trying to grapple with their mental health.)

The Sandman is sort of kind of the second one? But if it follows the comics he'll lose that fight.

Sci-fi like 'The Expanse' that's more science-real, has no stupid horror overtones, and is sex-lite or totally gen/found family. Also, please, no fucking 'humans are so special' moments.

Post-apocalypse with no zombies (though i dearly love them) that focuses more on how people SURVIVE. Like - season one is immediately post whatever happened, season two is maybe a couple years later, etc. I want to see scavenging in destroyed cities, i want to see people figuring out how to plant food again, learning skills.... No rape, no stupid gangs of roving thugs that kill everyone, no maniacal overlords that kill everyone.

More traditional high fantasy, maybe leaning a little more on the atmospheric side, but with relaxed tone. Why didn't more people love Willow, dammit.

Do you like looking around on Youtube?

I've had good luck poking around there for animated shorts on a wide variety of science fiction type topics.
