That's so annoying. At least a little bit to guide the player is good. You don't need Tolkien levels of world building, but a bit of backstory is always helpful and good for context.

What are these games like?

Right?! I mean, worldbuilding and character-arcs are half the reason I play!

And yeah, not loving the 'tutorials?! wassat!?' ugh. Tutorials and hints at WTF is going on is kinda important.
