I don't consider people's admitted overanalysis to be on the same level as decades of gay characters being killed off because it was the only way they were allowed to be seen, or made a teachable moment for the sake of the straights, or trans people's existence and/or genitals being a punchline, comparable.

Sure, but I don't think that all canon LGBTQ characters should have to bear the weight of that history. And it's not what's going on with all LGBTQ characters today.

They don't have to. I'm saying, they're often passed over because they're faulty for their own reasons.

I agree that it happens but I also think at this point there are enough canon LGBTQ characters who don't suck that it can't be the whole explanation

Genuine question, what media are you watching where this is even much of a thing anymore? We still have a ways to go in regards to trans-rep, as in there isn't enough variety of characters who are, but BYG's has gotten less and less common over the last several years to the point that I can't remember the last time I saw it(outside of some shitty B-movie).

As I said, STD is a recent example. They only backpedalled on that one due to fan backlash.

But my point isn't about BYG itself as much as generally flawed representation, which is very common even now, I think.
