(Anonymous) 2023-06-11 12:49 am (UTC)(link)Like, the fact that a character gets adopted by fandom doesn't really mean they're a *better* character than one who doesn't get adopted by fandom. Fandom is a very specific thing!

(Anonymous) 2023-06-11 01:03 am (UTC)(link)I think some fans themselves don't really consider that they like the fannish potential of a character more than the character as they are in canon, and say "___ is my favorite character" because of that fannish potential. But then who's to say that's not a valid reason to have them be your favorite character?

(Anonymous) 2023-06-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)Depends on how you define "better", I guess. When it comes to Fandom, I look for characters that I want to spend time with. I would prefer to spend my time with other queers, so if they're not queer in canon then I make them queer in my space. And nine times out of ten the canon queer characters bore the shit out of me.
YMMV, etc etc
