Uh... can someone provide more context about the Hitler thing? That really happened?

I think OP is talking about Timewyrm: Exodus. Basically what happens IIRC is that timey-wimey nonsense leads to various alien forces helping Hitler win WW2, and so the Doctor has to return the timeline back to its "normal" course, which he does in part by making sure that Hitler stays in power while remaining incompetent and insane instead of being helped by the various alien forces. It's... not great (Doctor Who should generally stay very very very far away from dealing with the Holocaust) but it's not really about the Doctor being on Hitler's side I don't think.

There was a lot of suspicious praising of goering though

Thank you! That... does not sound great, to be honest. I mean, I could see where they're trying to go with it, but nah.

The second NA book, by Terrance Dicks, legit had that happen as part of a "make ww2 happen properly" plot. Although he was chummier with goering th?an hitler. Dicks clearly had issues with revisionism.
