I saw lemmy being mentioned so checked it out and absolutely do not understand it. Same with mastodon. The whole thing makes me feel very old.

Yeah, I think lemmy and mastonon are pretty similar in concept. I don't get it and I really don't want to invest time on getting it either.
If Reddit dies I'm probably just keeping lemmy to check out the r/piracy backup and nothing else. I don't even get discord... I'm just in my 30s and feel already ancient internet wise.

DA

My husband actually has used Discord for several years and is pushing 40. His involvement got me to try it out. I do like it but am already spending time in other spaces. Thus I'm not on there as much as I need to be in order to become fluent.

Discord is basically like what AIM used to be. It's just a chat/messaging program.

Mastodon seemed confusing, unwieldy, and underpopulated.

I hate Lemmy and Mastodon too.

Reddit has a very simple structure. Just copy Reddit!

I feel this way about Mastodon and others trying to be the new Twitter, too. Just make it function like Twitter, sans Elon and the bots and dipshit bluechecks, man.

The thing is that the people who made Mastodon have a bug up their ass about how much social media sucks, and so they're trying to do everything The Right Way

Which, unfortunately, is nigh-unusable
