The live action remakes of animated films are for the parents, not the kids. Disney said that from the beginning. The whole point is to give parents a movie they’ll want to go see with their kids instead of suffering through current kids’ movies (not the exact wording they used, obviously). Kids don’t like 2D hand drawn (or looking like hand drawn) cartoons. They don’t enjoy watching all the animated movies their parents saw as a kid (obviously not a universal thing but common enough that Disney wasn’t getting as much revenue off the old films as they always had). The live action movies bridge that gap. And also make the characters known to kids so merchandise and theme park events get a boost in popularity.
