No. Monstrous Regiment. And Thud.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
All of them are. Except Raising Steam, that one sucked. Damned Alzheimers.

It's an unrankable series.

Like how can you really say Monstrous Regiment is worse than Jingo, or vice versa. It's ridiculous.

+1. I know a lot of people rank the Night Watch books really high, but Sam Vimes gets on my nerves, so nope. But I can't say they're "worse" just that they're not my preference.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah exactly! They're personally my favorites and the wizards / Rincewind books are my least favorites but those are still really good books, just not as much to my personal taste.

the guards books are fine - men at arms in particular is great, although its gonne politics are certainly a thing - but he went through a stage of writing *nothing but* guards books (or more accurately vimes books) and that got real stupid and real boring real fast

but yeah, give me some death and susan books and i'm golden

SAME.

Agreed. I may have favorites, but I don't think it is possible to say that any is actually better than any other.

Nope. Small Gods really hits me wrong a LOT.

Snuff, Wee Free Men, Men at Arms, Equal Rites, Lords and Ladies.

Every few years I try and get into these books with little success. The clips and quotes I've seen people post from it always makes me want to read more, but the actual books just don't seem to work for me. I'm thinking I just don't jive with the style of writing, which kind of makes me sad.

Insert obligatory "reading order" suggestion/argument you have probably already seen many time!

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I’ve never read Jingo but adore Small Gods so now I’m downloading Jingo onto my kindle.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure I agree, but I am willing to consider other arguments

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm in the fandom minority but I've never been a huge fan of the Night Watch books/characters. They're fine, just not my favorites. I did like Hogfather though, but I lean more towards the books that feature the witches. Rincewind and the Unseen University are at the bottom for me.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
no they were right about hogfather

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Lords and Ladies!

(Anonymous) 2023-06-16 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
Except it's clearly "Reaper Man"
