Solo travel groups

Has anyone ever been on one of those 'solo' travel groups like Intrepid Travel or G Adventures? Who did you use? Where did you go? How did you like it?

Tried Imperial Navy, ended up on Mimban as a Mud Trooper. 2/5 stars, would not recommend.

Wait so by solo travel you mean group travel adventures? I ask only because i am confused because that is not what I would call solo travel.

I did two Topdeck trips in the 2010s and both were to Europe (the first was a big circle London to London while the second was from Greece up through the eastern border cities like Tirana and Sarajevo).

The thing with group ‘solo’ tours is, it’s all about what you make of it yourself. You are given ample options for activities or left to your own devices on town days, while there was a lot of travelling between locations due to the distance. Sometimes we spent 7-8 hours on the tour bus depending, though these were split into increments as the driver was only allowed to drive three to four hours nonstop.

If you don’t drive like me, they’re an option to explore countries that you would otherwise have to fly to or travel by train. You do have to put up with some obnoxious people who treat it like a popularity game (this one woman in the last tour hated me and another girl for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON and kicked up a fuss when she was assigned me as a roommate instead of one of the girls she’d made friend with. as a result I got my own room that night so I wasn’t too fussed and I got a good Scottish friend out of it due to our mutual bonding over being disliked for no reason).

I’m doing another Topdeck tour next year, this time to New Zealand, as I will be beyond their age limit next birthday.

Man, 18 to 39 is such a huge range. I wonder if I can find a travel group for just 30yos and up.

Intrepid seems to deal with 30+. a friend of my mum’s who’s in her 50s/60s uses it all the time. Otherwise I’d recommend a travel group like Trafalgar. Topdeck and Contiki attract teenagers and young adults because of their cheap price ranges.
