Solo travel groups

(Anonymous) 2023-06-14 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone ever been on one of those 'solo' travel groups like Intrepid Travel or G Adventures? Who did you use? Where did you go? How did you like it?

Tried Imperial Navy, ended up on Mimban as a Mud Trooper. 2/5 stars, would not recommend.

Wait so by solo travel you mean group travel adventures? I ask only because i am confused because that is not what I would call solo travel.

Re: Solo travel groups

(Anonymous) 2023-06-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That is why I shad solo in ' '. Solo meaning you are not going with anyone you know.

I did two Topdeck trips in the 2010s and both were to Europe (the first was a big circle London to London while the second was from Greece up through the eastern border cities like Tirana and Sarajevo).

The thing with group ‘solo’ tours is, it’s all about what you make of it yourself. You are given ample options for activities or left to your own devices on town days, while there was a lot of travelling between locations due to the distance. Sometimes we spent 7-8 hours on the tour bus depending, though these were split into increments as the driver was only allowed to drive three to four hours nonstop.

If you don’t drive like me, they’re an option to explore countries that you would otherwise have to fly to or travel by train. You do have to put up with some obnoxious people who treat it like a popularity game (this one woman in the last tour hated me and another girl for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON and kicked up a fuss when she was assigned me as a roommate instead of one of the girls she’d made friend with. as a result I got my own room that night so I wasn’t too fussed and I got a good Scottish friend out of it due to our mutual bonding over being disliked for no reason).

I’m doing another Topdeck tour next year, this time to New Zealand, as I will be beyond their age limit next birthday.

Man, 18 to 39 is such a huge range. I wonder if I can find a travel group for just 30yos and up.

I haven’t submitted any secrets in months and this week I submitted three, and I’d forgotten how embarrassed I feel when a secret I’ve posted goes up, no matter what the reaction is from others. It may be anonymous, but I feel exposed, and I can’t help cringing.

Anybody else feel similarly about posting secrets?

(Anonymous) 2023-06-14 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel this even if I submit the secrets under the awesome secret maker's post.

Ever so slightly?
I wanted to submit a secret, but by the time the post came around for submitting one, I had totally forgotten what it was. Oh, well.

yes

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I also feel embarrassment when submitting them, I know full well Case isn't judging but my irrational brain doesn't care about logic and knowledge.

But once in awhile there is a comment that gets it and makes me feel seen in the good way, which is the reason I keep submitting them. Looking for that elusive hit of understanding and comradery.

I think the past two or three times I submitted one, just by pure chance they wound up the first secret in the post and so I got a jumpscare when I scrolled down my reading page. At least a couple of times it wigged me out so bad I didn't dare read any actual comments on them until a few days later (meanwhile I posted under other secret threads and stuff, I just... scrolled quickly past the one for my own secret, hahah)

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes if some of mine are posted next to each other and I get paranoid that someone is going to figure out they are by the same person.

Oh... just about every time. Yet I still submit secrets and contribute to the secret threads.

I never learn.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah, same.
I actually wanted to submit secret about but forgot. I only can submit secrets about canons that I am mildly passionate about. My main fandoms? Nope

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. I also occasionally decide in advance that I'm not going to read the comments for a particular secret. Because sometimes I have a secret that feels like it's worth posting, but I'm also just not interested in hearing a bunch of strangers on the internet opine about whether I ought to feel that way or not, so I just don't read the comments for those ones.

Advice: Ask it, Give it!

[personal profile] tabaqui 2023-06-15 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
So I got a used book, which had a big sticker on the cover at some point, that someone else removed, leaving a big, tacky spot. RIGHT in the middle of the cover. It's one of those really soft, matte, kind of silky covers? Not hard and glossy.
Any idea how to get that tacky mess off without destroying the cover?

Googling around suggests a crepe eraser might help you out? I don't want to vouch for the veracity of that, since I've never used one, but they are used for getting sticky note residue off of textbook pages, which sounds pretty close to your problem!

Blocking specific words

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-06-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Is there a way to block emails that mention a specific thing? Mostly I want to block "father's day" so I stop getting ads and then being sad all over again.

Orange soap. Don’t use Goo Gone straight off, buy some Bronner’s citrus first and apply the soap to a paper towel. You want a paper towel that’s more paper than towel and has some texture. Very gently scrub the spot and add more soap to your towel as needed to soak the sticky spot. Let it sit 30-60 minutes and then scrub gently with a clean dry paper towel. If residue remains, do the same process but with Goo Gone. The most important thing is to only apply either liquid to your paper towel and not your book.

Sticky stuff attracts other sticky stuff, so if I take a sticker off something and it leaves residue, I'll use the same sticker to like, press it against the spot, then lift it off really quick, sort of like a dabbing kind of motion? And then keep doing that until it's gone.

Ideally, you want to use something with the same kind of adhesive, so if you can get your hands on some stickers, even like kids' ones with smiley faces, those should work the best, but if not try to get tape with a fairly strong adhesive.

It should work to get rid of the sticky residue without damaging the book.

Tumblr Peeps

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
For the first time I had to contact support for something. I submitted my issue on Saturday, and still have not heard anything. Is it normal for it to take this long? Also, do they not have an auto response? Could my submission have gotten ate?

Food suggestions for difficult/painful swallowing

(Anonymous) 2023-06-15 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Anon from a couple weeks ago with the dad having a cancer scare here. They found a large mass in his esophagus and he's waiting on an endoscopy and biopsy; in the meantime, he's really struggling with food. Basically anything more solid than ice cream is impossible for him right now.

I've been buying Ensure drinks for him which he loves but he's losing weight rapidly. If anyone has any suggestions for good fattening super-soft/liquid foods, I'd be super grateful. The more calorific the better. I've done my Googling but so many of the suggestions (scrambled eggs/hummus/rice pudding) he can't manage.
