From what I've seen, the loudest of those people were fans of the franchise until a specific decision (or a series of them) drove them out. It's not just "I hate this popular thing!" It's the betrayal of the popular thing they loved turning into something they hate. You see this with other fandoms too, but unlike HIMYM or GoT or whatever, the MCU is not only going strong but expanding. Sure, they could just ignore it, but fandom has never been rational about this kind of thing.
