I joined the fandom late in the show (maybe around season 5/6) and by that time, it felt to me that klance fans were mostly huddled in their corner and licking their wounds, occasionally coming out to start unnecessary shit, but not the active menace they were earlier? I was aware of them and the crap they had pulled but they were easy enough for me to avoid. IDK. They didn't really impact my fandom experience all that much to be honest.

Sheith fans though. Maybe they did less awful stuff to the people involved with the show, but they sure made my time in the fandom a miserable experience. And for some people that makes sheith fans "not as bad" which is fine I guess. But I think it's pointless to compare levels of awful for any fandom once it has a reputation of harassment and chasing others out and being generally terrible.

Sheith and klance both had awful fandoms that ruined the experience for others/made others feel unsafe. I'm comfortable with that statement and I don't feel the need to qualify it with "but this side was worse."

I decided to take a listen to a bunch of bands and songs I used to listen to in highschool (about 13- 15 years ago or so...)...and my goodness.

I was not in bandom, never have been... but wtf were we all on? The songs are like 1/4 vampire, 1/4 suicide, 1/4 murder, and 1/4 other -- possibly, a combo. Add some misogyny depending on the band.

But... I did realize how much I missed the whining vocal slides of Sonny Moore (From First to Last). And Escape the Fate is really giving me fuckboys of the emo/screamo scene. I had a crush on Robert. Just looked up a picture, and I still do lmao.

B!S: I started to look into what happened next, and man...some of the dudes in these bands... :(

My favorite is Origins, so I feel your pain. I think it's less hated than Odyssey and Valhalla, but man people really judge you for liking any of the newer games.

I love Bayek with my whole heart though.

I hated Love Between Fairy and Devil too, but that was fully on account of finding the heroine to be legit awful. I still have nightmares of her voice. I prefer wuxia over xianxia tbh, and I prefer stories where the romance isn't the main story.

I watched Iron Man 2 recently and saw his cameo which I had forgotten. I wanted to gouge my eyes out.

That has certainly been my experience.

I am so fucking tired of the expectation that everything women do in fandom must either be improving for us in some way, or for someone else's benefit even when we're doing something for ourselves (like shipping slash). Not everything is activism, nor does it have to be.

See, I skipped over the whole thread a few days ago where people were talking about Brit-picking because I disagree completely, but I also didn't have any reason to mess with writers who were lamenting it expressly because they wanted to do extra work for authentic fictional speech patterns.

But if anons are flipping that on its head to go "how dare you write English but not the right variety of English, as it's usually spoken in this arbitrary piece of the world," that bothers me a lot more. First, because it's intimidating enough to everyone who has English as a second or third language to be writing in it at all. Second, because lots of fans are not sociable enough or confident enough to want a native-speaker for a beta. And third, because it is entirely unnecessary. I've seen excellent stories that don't spare a second's thought to the fact that Brits say "shan't" and Americans don't.

The fact that you're listening to dialog has no bearing on whether your brain remembers the exact wording characters use. A lot of people's brains remember "what was said" in the terms that communicate to them as efficiently as possible what was meant, and not like a tape recording. If that's not how your mind works, great. But understand that you have a huge advantage where it comes to picking up regional variations that a lot of other people do not have. And good storytellers can completely lack this ability and still have a lot to say.

I really get tired of people making a huge deal over trivia, and then arguing that free stories that don't cater to their pet peeve are deeply flawed, in a tone of voice like this. Like "what's wrong with you and why would you EVER make this mistake?" when it makes next to no difference at all. And also, when one of the hardest things for a new writer to get over is feeling like absolutely everything they create is probably inadequate, no matter how hard they try to get it right. Broadcasting "here's more things you ought to be doing to not suck!" to anyone and everyone at a fandom watercooler is just needlessly cruel.

What was there to ask about the pride flag?

Nah. I don't think any fanfic writer has a duty to write anything except what they really want to. And also, Hermione kicks ass as a girl who is only girly on the very rare occasion that she wants to be. And otherwise has a full and varied life where the most salient thing about her is that she is fucking smart and people respect her for that.
