Did you miss the part where they also enjoy when someone gets what they're doing?

No, I did not miss that part. I just think that if a writer is complaining that readers have 'fucked up' by not getting private jokes, odd turns of phrase, etc. then that writer is kind of a dick about it and maybe shouldn't post publicly until they get their self-importance in check. Now, if that writer has posted warnings in their notes about what they have in their fics and they ask readers not to comment wanting explanations and the readers still do, those readers have fucked up, not by their confusion, but by commenting and not paying attention to the warnings.

Why? Unless this person replies with “lol you Nellie” who cares? The commentator will never know.

I don't know that they aren't a dick to people who ask for help if they get confused. And also, because they're putting it on fandomsecrets, some people are going to wonder if they're being judged by writers in general for not getting everything, and worry about admitting that when they comment.

Which, aside from sucking for readers, is a crappy result for other writers. Because most of us ARE trying to be understood and we actually learn things from knowing what things we can hint at, versus what things will just be puzzling.
