Travel advice (TMI kinda)

(Anonymous) 2023-06-23 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone on fs been to places like South East Asia, Sri Lank, India and the like? I’m contemplating going but due to a bit of IBS problem I’m not sure how well I’d do with the squat toilets. Are there equal western toilets to squat? Or are they only in 5 star/western influenced places?

I'm not an expert, but western toilets weren't hard to find when I spent a few days in Phuket Tailand. They're probably more common around touristy areas.

I've been to Malaysia and Singapore, and it really depends on where you're going and how used they are to tourists but most places (and not just the 5 star places) have western style toilets available. It might not be "equal" in the sense that you'll have 50% of each in any given location, though. But I don't think you'll have any trouble finding them as long as you're not spending most of your time in very rural places where they haven't updated the bathroom facilities.

Someone once told me that they took a folding toilet seat with them when they went to India, the kind you can get for camping, and just placed it over the top. I don't know how convenient they are to carry around, I think this person was with a tour group. It might be worth looking into?

I mean it looks a little inconvenient but easier to manage than the mobility aid ones. I’ll have to see one in person to understand how easy it would be to set up and carry in a suitcase.
