Question

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-06-25 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone know how to withdraw a request for a refund from Doordash? I ordered food, the person delivered it to the wrong house. But she came back and redelivered it after I'd already done the refund request. I don't want her penalized, but I can't figure out how to withdraw the refund request.

I think you might need to chat with their support chat people. But I've generally found that to be pretty responsive and good. Good luck!

You’d have to call but honestly she’s better off if you don’t. They are NOT allowed to retrieve misdelivered food and deliver it to the correct address. It’s a massive food safety violation.

Ah, okay, good to know. thanks. I feel bad. She delivered it to the wrong street but the right number.

Hi F!S. Work was horrible today. I kind of want to take over the world and be an evil overlord. Then we would never be understaffed again. *evil laugh* How are you all?

Spending too much time with family in a place I can't get away from all of their noise. Slowly losing my cool.

Got up early to take a walk before it got super hot. Just ate a big salad. And I've valiantly fought off taking a nap. So been a bit boring.

Finally put together the patio sofa. It takes up almost the entire balcony space, but it's comfy.

We're getting steady rain for the first time in too long, which made the bus ride home from dinner interesting. Our bus was going through downtown, and since it's Pride weekend downtown is packed with people. It was a bit amusing watching everyone huddle under whatever shelter they could find, which wasn't too much given all the crowds.

Mildly pissed at myself for ruining my weekend plans due to dumb accidents.

- Could not finish a particular cosplay prop due to the clearcoat (which I had chosen because it was the kind of clearcoat that was difficult to work with but had never caused any problems with any kind of paint previously) doing weird things to one color of paint on the prop. :(
- Did not start FF16 when I meant to because just before I intended to start the game, there was a pet mishap and long story short my PS5 controller was submerged in water. :(

But I think now I have a solution to the clearcoat problem after spending the last three days trying and failing to find a way to fix it without having to make the whole thing over again from the beginning. And I have a new PS5 controller (in purple!) and have started the game and am beginning to have fun. Just... behind schedule on both these things and now it is a work day. :(

Queen Nefertiti

A while back there was a secret about Queen Nefertiti and someone who wanted more info? I stumbled across this documentary tonight and thought it looked good:

A brief vent

(Anonymous) 2023-06-26 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I have several friends who were all, "why is the news focusing on the submarine and not the migrant boat? What is wrong with society?" who now...continue to focus totally on the sub. They are still posting on Facebook about it. Long posts, too, dissecting the composition of the craft in detail. "Shouldn't we care more about the migrants" is the only thing they've said about the migrants. Not a peep since.

And all I can think is: you are, in fact, part of why the news focused on the sub. Despite what you've said, it's what you personally care more about. You are demonstrating that, right now.

I'm getting sick of people assuaging their guilt in this way, because I think that's what it is. They know what it is they should care more about, and they think they can absolve themselves if they call attention to that knowledge. But it's ultimately just so empty.

You're 100% right. People are, unfortunately, hypocrites.

I also absolutely believe that sub was more... ah exiting.
It's bad that it happening with migrants. But basically I can't do anything about it. I can't do anything about a lot of awful things and I choose to ignore learning about them. It's only empty outrage and my empty outrage can't save migrants trying to flee. People can't take all pain in the world.

Sub was really funny in a morbid way. It was preventable, it was absolutely bizarre and highly ironic. And it happened to people to whom bad things never happen. So of course people are going to be interested.

DA

I feel like the idea of finding certain news stories exciting or entertaining is a mixed bag. It's certainly a way to engage with the news, but is it always healthy? And what are the implications of the types of stories we find entertaining? I have asked these questions a fair amount in my time pursuing media analysis as a hobby/passion, and the sub story is an example of these questions in action.

Myself, I stayed away from both news stories and aimed to signal boost other topics that were less sad but still engaging, like lawyers in NYC getting fined for using ChatGPT in briefings. I did this instead of focusing on the sub because not only did I find sub-related schadenfruede somewhat hypocritical I also wanted to keep my news finding skills sharp. I think we can all benefit from developing habits of not always latching onto the most popular news stories. In my opinion, a balance between staying informed and being entertained is both possible and necessary.

I have said similar things about different news events over the years. I've also offered other news stories they can focus on. Maybe one day this will make a difference. Maybe.
