- Could not finish a particular cosplay prop due to the clearcoat (which I had chosen because it was the kind of clearcoat that was difficult to work with but had never caused any problems with any kind of paint previously) doing weird things to one color of paint on the prop. :(
- Did not start FF16 when I meant to because just before I intended to start the game, there was a pet mishap and long story short my PS5 controller was submerged in water. :(
But I think now I have a solution to the clearcoat problem after spending the last three days trying and failing to find a way to fix it without having to make the whole thing over again from the beginning. And I have a new PS5 controller (in purple!) and have started the game and am beginning to have fun. Just... behind schedule on both these things and now it is a work day. :(

A brief vent
(Anonymous) 2023-06-26 02:23 am (UTC)(link)And all I can think is: you are, in fact, part of why the news focused on the sub. Despite what you've said, it's what you personally care more about. You are demonstrating that, right now.
I'm getting sick of people assuaging their guilt in this way, because I think that's what it is. They know what it is they should care more about, and they think they can absolve themselves if they call attention to that knowledge. But it's ultimately just so empty.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-26 04:38 am (UTC)(link)It's bad that it happening with migrants. But basically I can't do anything about it. I can't do anything about a lot of awful things and I choose to ignore learning about them. It's only empty outrage and my empty outrage can't save migrants trying to flee. People can't take all pain in the world.
Sub was really funny in a morbid way. It was preventable, it was absolutely bizarre and highly ironic. And it happened to people to whom bad things never happen. So of course people are going to be interested.
Re: A brief vent
(Anonymous) 2023-06-26 11:08 am (UTC)(link)I feel like the idea of finding certain news stories exciting or entertaining is a mixed bag. It's certainly a way to engage with the news, but is it always healthy? And what are the implications of the types of stories we find entertaining? I have asked these questions a fair amount in my time pursuing media analysis as a hobby/passion, and the sub story is an example of these questions in action.
Myself, I stayed away from both news stories and aimed to signal boost other topics that were less sad but still engaging, like lawyers in NYC getting fined for using ChatGPT in briefings. I did this instead of focusing on the sub because not only did I find sub-related schadenfruede somewhat hypocritical I also wanted to keep my news finding skills sharp. I think we can all benefit from developing habits of not always latching onto the most popular news stories. In my opinion, a balance between staying informed and being entertained is both possible and necessary.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)I have said similar things about different news events over the years. I've also offered other news stories they can focus on. Maybe one day this will make a difference. Maybe.
