I really appreciate the lyrics you opted to show in the secret. These are probably my favorites from the song.

Thanks for making this secret, secret maker!

Yes. This is my fandom. I'm so here for this! 😸

The fly bites VS the storm is meant to be what? You're too sensitive and suffer too much while others in the storm? Way to invalidate others experinces. There's hungry kids in Africa, so what. Sheesh.

The second part is gibberish. idk who's the poet but it feels amateur. If that's the modern poetry, it's becoming worse and worse. The second part doesn't resonate with me at all. What secrets, there's no secrets.

If by modern you 1980s/90s, because this is Genesis aka Phil Collins in a band era Phil Collins.

That said, I could see this used in fandom TikTok. I've seen less poetic and more amateur and improperly applies lyrics to certain characters or pairings lol

ayrt
i thought it was a stand alone poem not a part of a song. Sorry for misunderstanding. It probably makes sense in a song.
I've been reading some 19th poetry with thy old language to boot so my meh reaction to the verses in the secret was strong.

Ayrt

No worries! Sorry if I came on strong with my response! Context is everything, I get the confusion!

It's quite amazing how you clearly don't have a clue as to what you're talking about, but still determined to be critical and judgmental about it, anyway.

It's still relevant ot the secret. Unlike your comment.

It’s quite amazing how ayrt wasn’t doing anything wrong by not liking the lyrics at first, whether they knew the context or not, but you’re still determined to be snotty and condescending to them anyways.

You know, even if it turned out to be more interesting than you thought, I appreciated this comment. It's so straightforward and blunt and salty, and "this is trying to be deep and not managing" was exactly how the excerpt hit me, too.

Which isn't to say an AMV or something couldn't turn it into something beautiful, so I also see the secret-maker's point. But ... I kind of want more out of lyric writing than I find. In general.

I agree

I honestly still think you’re right. And I like Genesis, especially Peter Gabriel’s era. But I feel that this song is clunky, and is trying too hard to be biting social commentary. I feel like this was the case back then, and I don’t feel like it becomes anymore profound or true nowadays either.

This is a random aside, and is only related because Genesis, but one really underrated song of theirs imo is “The Day the Lights Went Out”. That song scared the hell out of me as a kid, and still creeps me out to this day! But nobody ever talks about it, which sucks, because I think it’s good.
