YEAH, this exactly!

In a post-apocalyptic setting where people *care* for each other, plenty of disabled people will do just fine-- will survive whether or not they 'contribute', even, though depending on the person and the apocalypse, some of us will be better suited than others.

You *could* have a post-apocalyptic story where people work on doing what they have to to keep being able to re-create life-saving medications, honestly. And I've definitely read/seen post-apocalypse where finding a supply of insulin was a plot point, even if the character was working for short term survival more than long term. But *certainly* having a mobility aid is not a death sentence.

right like there is a lot of silence about disabilities in the history of apocalyptic fic but a lot of creators are very deliberately addressing that now. A Quiet Place and the Last of Us are recent and have disabled characters surviving through the years. That insulin story sounds very interesting.

Ditto "Bird Box" where it turns out the blind are leading the survivors.

That's true, and technically mentally ill people also survive just fine although that part of the story is pretty crappy.

Natrt
Just chiming in that the insulin story sounds like it could be Telltale's The Walking Dead s2! As a T1 diabetic, that one stood out to me.

oh video games sound perfect for exploring that!
