I mean, disabled people are surviving basically localized apocalypses now. And probably always have done.

I thought first of war zones in Sudan and Syria and Ukraine, but basically every warzone ever going back to prehistory is a microcosm of suckage from a survival standpoint.

Hell, wars (and apocalypses) make more disabled people, whether with trauma and ptsd or physical injury and deficiency diseases.

Of course some disabled people would/do die when everything goes to shit. So do/would tons of abled people.

Are there apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic stories that are thinly or not-at-all disguised eugenicist asshole wet dreams? Almost certainly. Is it a cornerstone of the genre? Nope, not so much.
