This reminds me of a Buffy spin-off comic collection I remember reading from the library forever ago about all of the past slayers pre-Buffy and the last story being set in the distance future (which had another spin-off from the spin-off to explain the latter story further).

The reason I'm bringing it up is that the story had the teen girl (either a teen or a young woman idk its been that long since I read it), who had all the inherited skills but none of the memories that slayers usually got and it turned out that the memories went to her twin brother - soooo you could reinterpret that as someone who doesn't realize that she's trans yet if you wanted, or if they ever redid or adapted that part of the series.

Hell yeah, I'd watch it.

Not often a fan of remakes, but I'd honestly love to see this. So much potential for Slayer lore, in the right hands.

I don't know that I would trust anyone to do a good job on this concept, honestly.

Isn't trans girl is a girl who was a boy? So OP wants Buffy to be played by a girl? By non passing OP means a trans girl that looks like a boy? So OP wants Buffy to be played by manly looking girl? This is so confusing. Does it even matter who plays Buffy. I don't know much about trans terminology and such but I'm against casting actors based on their skin colour, race, a former sex and current sexuality. That's just descrimination, positive or negative, doesn't matter.

Found Clarence Thomas's Dreamwidth account.

So you saying that trans girl is not a 'real' girl? You all transphobes commenting under this secret. OP is a phobe too.

troll in the dungeon!

the fact that no one corrected my interpretation of the secret shows that I'm right. OP doesn't want trans Buffy, they want Buffy played by a trans girl acror with a visible penis outline or some other 'non passing' feature. That's completely disrespectfull. Your trolling is gross too because transphobia's no laughing matter. But whatever. Trash gonna be trashy.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wtf you on about, mate.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Pro tip: Trans people don't have to "pass" to deserve representation.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Buffy being trans is representation. Buffy played by a trans person is not.

I don’t see any point to remaking Buffy tbh, the lore has it built right in that you can just have a new slayer. Or lots of them. And they don’t have to be cisgirls, the comics already set the stage for that. A Buffy remake would change all the characters leaving them just with their names from original show, which is one of the reasons why most remakes fail. At least the show was a continuation of the movie and while they recast all the roles, the characters stayed the same and the movie events weren’t retconned. I shudder to think how a remake would handle everything that’s come before, especially the comics.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
This has to be a troll.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It really doesn’t have to be.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
What makes Buffy worth watching, for me, is mostly James Marster's portrayal of Spike. I'm there for every second of what he put into his role. Buffy's alright, but ... I wouldn't have stuck around for the run of the show without him. Of course, age has drawn its claws over the actor in the meantime, and I can't see myself watching any remake with someone else portraying Spike. Which means I'm just not interested in a new version of it.

derailing from transphobia to rape apologism isn't a great improvement tbh

Meh.
