I agree that people should definitely tag this, but I also feel for authors who post, like, 50 fics with the same character/pairings and the same character is always trans in every fic having to be sure they tag the trans character every single time. Like, at some point, it would be convenient to just be like "[Character] is always trans in my fics okay?!" and not have to make sure it's added to each and every fic, but you never know when someone is stumbling across your fic for the first time so that won't work. But it's hard to remember to consistently tag, IMO!

It's ... not that hard to remember to consistently tag if the thing you tag is something that changes something pretty essential about one of the main characters in your fic.

But unless it's a small fandom where people already know all the authors (and what they like to write), most readers would not realise that the author has written 50 fics like that before once they found the first fic by them? Sure, if they check the other works afterwards or the author posts 50 fics in a row in just one fandom, but I think that's pretty rare?

That's assuming a lot on behalf of the reader.

If someone is already tagging for characters and relationships, how difficult is it really to add a 'Trans [Character]' tag? When posting a story, adding another tag takes a few seconds.

This only works if the reader is following the author, not when it's found in the wild when people are looking for fic thought the ship/fandom tag.
