Re: Least Favorite AO3 tag when searching fanfics?

So-and-so is autistic.

Not because I have an issue with autism rep or autistic headcanons, but because I have never read one (before I started avoiding it) that wasn't chock full of stereotypes and bad writing.

Not a huge fan of non-canon trans!character for a few of the same reasons and also because it seems to be the modern version of 'gender swap so the pairing isn't gay' which makes me side eye the writers.

I wonder if there are still people claiming that genderswap is transphobic - I remember that being a thing for a while pre-2020.

Same here.

I'm not at all against the concept of those two tags but I have yet to see one that didn't make me cringe in some way. (Granted, I've not clicked on many in a few months)

ah, as an autistic writer, I use that all the time (and sometimes get people asking me where the part where the character was autistic was, like... he's autistic the whole time, my dude, he just doesn't care about trains and shit)

lol I feel this.

There is one character I headcanon as autistic and don't tag it because honestly I'm just writing him as in-character as I can. He's canonically an odd little dude regardless of whether it's actually autism or just endearing awkwardness, the inability to be anything but earnest, and special interests. XD

As an actual autistic person - hard agree
And there are characters I write whom I HC as autistic but nobody has ever noticed (or pointed out) anything I guess. It seems meaningless to tag something like that since people aren't born and don't necessarily exist with such labels. It just feels less canon compliant for most fandoms.
