Sorry but non canon trans!character tags
Re: Least Favorite AO3 tag when searching fanfics?
(Anonymous) 2023-06-30 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)I mostly don't need to filter it out as it rarely shows up in my fandoms as they're about adult characters, but every now and then a fic or two will pop up and I'll just do a quick exclude in the tags I search to catch any more that might turn up.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-30 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)Not because I have an issue with autism rep or autistic headcanons, but because I have never read one (before I started avoiding it) that wasn't chock full of stereotypes and bad writing.
Not a huge fan of non-canon trans!character for a few of the same reasons and also because it seems to be the modern version of 'gender swap so the pairing isn't gay' which makes me side eye the writers.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)Meanwhile I've perma-filtered "xReader" and my NoTPs/beloathed characters. Everything else might be acceptable even if I don't usually enjoy it like certain AU concepts or altering a character's identity in a way I'm not specifically looking for.
I'm deeply blessed to be in fandoms that match my tastes I guess.

The rest are all pairings or character types, like "Tony Stark-centric".

Re: Least Favorite AO3 tag when searching fanfics?
It's not your soapbox is just a way to content label your fic
Also using "Dead Dove Do Not Eat" for something like a 2 year age gap between adults . The whole damn purpose of that tag is to quarantine the dark shit. You say we don't warn/shove dark stuff in your face?
Dead Dove is literally the warning. And often comes with other tags and often is a way to say "we mean those tags this is gonna be dark". Don't water it down if you're serious about protecting people/minors.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)The only one I tend to filter out is my notp-- I don't even want to see it, and it shows up a lot as a side ship for one of my OTPs for some reason (they're NOT sets of characters who interact, I'm not saying 'for some reason' to shade the ship I hate, like it's just that I understand, say, why if you read steddie you get side ronance, that's four characters who spend a chunk of time together, I don't understand why I'm looking for A/B and getting vast amounts of C/D, when A hasn't met either, B hasn't spoken two words to C or laid eyes on D... and I don't see what they would have in common unless you remove D's entire canon personality, which seems popular anyway so what do I know)
There are tags I avoid even though I don't normally filter them out, though-- if it says 'Mafia AU', I'm not reading it, if it's a high school AU then if I'm DESPERATE and it contains a thing I really like but can't find much of, I might. If it's like... a dark/evil take on a heroic character, I'm probably not reading it.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)And there are popular fanon AU things in my current fandom that I mostly avoid; they don't automatically mean the fic is badly written, I just don't like them.

OCs because I've never seen one who wasn't clearly an author insert and horribly written
Possibly more but those are the main ones.

It does bewilder me when people tag fic with the pronouns they're using for the character. I guess it strikes me like the trans headcanon thing, except most often in one of my fandoms I see it with a canonically genderfluid character - so it comes off like they want to show off how inclusive they're being, but "trans headcanon" would be pointless since it's ACTUAL CANON. But then other times people just do things like "she/her pronouns for X" when X in canon has never shown any suggestion of being anything other than a man, or wanting to be anything other than a man, and while "trans headcanon" makes sense to me because hey it's headcanon and people headcanon all kinds of things... just switching pronouns and tagging THAT seems odd.
Re: Least Favorite AO3 tag when searching fanfics?
(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 06:03 am (UTC)(link)-walls of tags.
-Coffee Shop AUs in particular, but really all AUs that involve characters being stripped of their more-than-ordinary traits.
-stories that indicate they're drastically changing a central character: if I'm searching their name, them-but-female, them-but-mentally-ill, them-but-a-five-star-chef, them-but-with-a-kangaroo's-genitalia, etc., are probably nopes.
-crossovers.
-tag clusters that indicate navigating bureaucracy will be a major plot point.
-curtainfic, slow burn (especially the sort with auxiliary tags indicating you might die of old age before the author has the characters do something entirely tame), and kidfic.
... oh, and forced pregnancy. I like many dark tropes and I'll try reading almost anything, but that one seems to have had all the interesting parts washed out and become a magnet for random writers with anxiety and no clue about human physiology.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 07:30 am (UTC)(link)Also, anything where the tags suggest my OTP is not endgame.
I also tend to skip most AUs for my current main OTP. However, I've had other OTPs I loved reading AUs for. It depends on the pairing.
Re: Least Favorite AO3 tag when searching fanfics?
(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 09:09 am (UTC)(link)Extreme Underage is one that I will not read, full stop, grouped in with anything shota/loli etc. Sometimes a fic tagged Underage can be good, I've got a couple of favourites tagged that which are more about "recovery from terrible events" and are non-graphic, but when you add "extreme" it's usually just a full-body flinch away.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-01 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)I have no complaints about the tag! It's just I do not like reading that kind of content, and I really appreciate the people who take the time to signal it. (Godspeed, dark-ficcers.)
