Nope. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. The one with four sisters. I haven't read A Little Princess.

I was more thinking of the plot point from it, where the girl's dad dies partway through, and that you'd somehow recalled that and conflated the two books. But if you hadn't read it, then IDK.
