(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)They are, but certain phrasing you used sounds a bit like when people say “I don’t mean to be __, but...”, which is followed by them being exactly what the blank was.
Your “I know I was harsh, but...” can be just read as the lead-up to your explanation, which is how I read it, to be clear. But it could also sound like the other thing I mentioned, and thus come off not so great. That’s what ayrt meant, I’m pretty sure.
I think they might have been joking a little bit though, but I could be wrong.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)Given how phrasing is a key method of developing tone in text, I'd say that being up front about why a statement is phrased a certain is more important than ever. Such a practice could also reduce the number of bad faith arguing accusations.
I admit I had to contemplate your response for a bit. The "nobody is allowed" portion threw me off.
