I was a kid when fireworks got banned in my country (you can have sparklers, otherwise it's professionals only), and never thought much about it, but then I made American friends online and heard about all the illegal fireworks and the wildfires they start in the middle of summer. and I was extremely glad Australia banned them and actually enforces the ban pretty well, especially as New Year's Eve is the middle of summer here!
