I was a kid when fireworks got banned in my country (you can have sparklers, otherwise it's professionals only), and never thought much about it, but then I made American friends online and heard about all the illegal fireworks and the wildfires they start in the middle of summer. and I was extremely glad Australia banned them and actually enforces the ban pretty well, especially as New Year's Eve is the middle of summer here!

It used to be illegal here, not that this stopped everyone. But now it's legal because my state sucks and there are a LOT more firecrackers going off this year. I expect there'll be even more tomorrow night and the night after.
