(Anonymous) 2023-07-04 12:56 am (UTC)(link)I do sometimes wonder if IchiRuki might have been intended to be canon at one point, they do have the whole red string of fate aspect that’s very typical of romances in Anime and other East Asian media, but the shippers maybe bugged Kubo off so much he changed it? But that could also be off base and they were only ever meant to be platonic soulmates and it was just shippers responding to a relationship that had a strong basis to it for shipping.
As you said it’s hardly unusual for shounen to have the lead end up with the choice that makes little sense. (Though I personally thought RukiRenji worked given their history which is why I think perhaps IchiRuki was meant to be bros only).
