tbh I think ff9 had a lot going for it but i also call it 'depression, the game' because it's sooooo depressing. it's the one i replay the least because i just cannot with the constant downs of it. (i know other ff games have dark story lines too but this one just idek it revels in the gloom)

AYRT i found it more depressing than X. my friends and i are pretty evenly split on that but, yeah, it's more depressing than X to me.

4's pretty up there too I'd say. It doesn't even have any light-hearted side content or anything, it's basically just "Cecil keeps failing traumatically until he finally wins".

I mean I say that I laugh when people say storylines are dark and depressing because Vagrant Story is my favorite game, Shadow of the Colossus is right up there too, DO YOUR WORST.

And yet I got to a part the other night where after I played through it, I took a day off because just... that was enough for now, need a break. (I am absolutely enjoying it, but DANG it's just generally full of upsetting content.)
