One) Is there an actual gay love interest for Jaskier? Or is this one of those implied things?

Two) I can't stand (so much so I made a secret about it) when short haired characters get long hair in sequels/later seasons. Mostly because I do not find long hair attractive on men (RIP Loki, Bucky, Jaskier, Klaus Hargreeves, Daryl Dixon).

(Anonymous) 2023-07-07 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite. It's a rare man that doesn't look better with longer hair imo.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. This is me, too. A lot of guys that are only "meh" to me with their hair shorn off really look handsome when they grow it out.

There was some m/m kissing, but as far as I know the whole relationship is based on a lie and one of the characters is evil. So...not really the pan rep I personally want, but I get why people are excited.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I mean... even if he's being manipulated by someone evil in this *particular* relationship, a character who is textually pan is a big deal! That it isn't JUST 'oh, you've had relationships with women and men and everything else', but getting to see him be open in having romantic and sexual feelings for men...

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Truth. I guess I'm just a little bitter on the whole "unhealthy gay relationship" thing but you're right, it's still a big deal they actually showed it not just vague implications.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile I'm immensely sick of healthy gay relationships and the outcry over every single gay relationship that isn't healthy. Unhealthy het relationships abound and are always more interesting than the requisite "healthy" male and female lead romance. We queers should get to have both too.

Totally get you. I wish there were enough queer relationships in shows that we could have it all, instead we are lucky to even get one chance at representation and that puts so much pressure and is never going to please everyone.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, anon.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
True, I mean... TV Witcher has like, the MOST unhealthy version of Yen and Geralt's relationship, so really, something messy and manipulative and heartbreaking and m/m is real equality here.

Opposite for me. I hate when a long-haired male character gets his hair cut, like Thor in Ragnarok (even if it did make sense in-context). Long hair on men is super attractive to me.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT - As far as I'm concerned, Hemsworth was the only man in that franchise who actually pulled off long hair well. Whoever made his wig should have done something about Hiddleston's, because that thing was... not attractive.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Hiddleston's hair length In Thor 1 and even in the first Avengers movie but after that it got... really weird.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it a wig? I seem to recall something about Hemsworth just growing out his own hair. But that might be my wishful thinking lol.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He really, really hated wearing the wig. There were at least a few interviews around Ragnarok where he talked about how happy he was not to have to wear it anymore, but I think Disney made him shut up about it.

Pretty sure it was a wig. It's a circular thing - a lot of western actors seem to have serious hang-ups about growing their hair out at all, let alone shoulder-length. So instead, they're stuck with something that feels even more unnatural and uncomfortable than their hair would, and they don't get used to what having long hair actually feels like. Cementing their impression that it's not for them.

The exceptions to this, the ones who are willing to do it the slow way, were generally in bands as teenagers.

I find it strange that they'll readily agree to drastic increases and decreases in weight, to suit their roles, but hair length can make them this uncomfortable.

Wigs are a way to make sure that your hair stays the same length over a multi-month shoot and ensures that you can act in other projects without having to maintain the same hairstyle for all your roles. This is also one of the reasons why eastern actors aren't walking around with waist-length hair even though their C- and K-drama characters are.

AYRT

Those are fair points. But I think it's more of a culture thing what's considered "reasonable" or "not reasonable" to do for a role. Partly because there's no shortage of male musicians who let their hair get long IRL, and partly because I know of actors (and actresses) being pressured to do many things that are more drastically life-changing to their bodies in the name of "taking their craft seriously." I 'd prefer not to get into details in mixed company. Suffice it to say there are major surgeries that the rest of the world would not consider cosmetic that actors are encouraged to get done before they need it and when they have money, because they'll have a hard time getting work or scraping up the funds for it on a now-I-have-a-problem basis. Whereas, live hair adapts easily to being long or short, and is much more resilient and appealing than even the best wigs. Also, a cast gets their makeup professionally done for shoot consistency: keeping hair long does not involve much additional upkeep. Depending on how long, obviously, but ... that's more of an issue for guys doing C- and K-dramas, as opposed to what passes for "long hair" on men in the west.

Yeah. It's rare for me to think a short haired guy is handsome. Hemsworth in Extraction, frex, just looks like another blue-eyed, blond whoever. He looks a lot more stately with long hair.

He's nice to me regardless, and I can like a short-haired man. But I definitely have a preference for long hair on men, or at least a nice full head of hair.
