Without getting too technical - DC++ is a p2p chat client, so you download the DC++ program, set up with a user name, download folder, shares, etc. Browse through the list of chatrooms, and then once you're in a room you can search through everyone's shares in that room and download whatever you like. There can be some restrictions, like minimum shares (you have to be already sharing so many gigs of data), or you have to be registered in that room (usually just by typing +regme in the chat), to search or download anything, but it's easy to find rooms that don't have these requirements if you don't want them.

I'm a data hoarder, so I much prefer to download my media.
