Chinese series based on BL don't have this issue. Also shonen manga. It's just that I dislike sex in my fics and TV so I pay attention to these things and gravitate towards G rating.

I mean... not sure if "Chinese series based on BL don't have this issue" is such a great take considering it's because of massively homophobic censorship that cuts out any overt romantic implications, let alone any sexual ones.

DA

Well, that's also the role religious oppression and massive censorship played in removing explicit sex scenes from the written material available to straight people. Things that across-the-board don't have porn tend to have been messed with. Often for political reasons.

The mass exodus from American media to stuff made in places that don't censor gay sex probably did more to reform that aspect of the industry in the US than decades of activists complaining about negative portrayals and erasure. But if anon wants gen, all the gen, only gen ... China may well have them covered.

AYRT - How many shounen manga with a canon gay relationship do you know, may I ask?

Chinese "BL" series probably don't have sex, but they often don't have established gay relationships either. It's all shipteasing. Not sure, didn't read many, never interested me (setting-wise, too tropey, etc).

SA (lol forgot what I was gonna type again, curse) - and I don't like gen actually I like... fluff. But then things like Heartstopper get criticized to the point of directing harrassment at the actors and so on. It's weird, to me, that hets can have all the fluff but gays can't. Why the double standard? Yeah, yeah I know, victory against homophobic censorship and all that. But a lot of people like romance regardless of sex/gender of the parts involved (that's me) and some people are sex-repulsed aces (also me) and so on so I think these series could have a huge market if it wasn't for this kind of backlash.
