I hope you're right but I'm not much of a regular moviegoer so I can't really remember a previous point in this cycle where low budget indie movies dominated the cinema...

Welcome to the nineties.

DA

90s indie movies were great but they definitely didn't dominate the box office

I was alive during that period. I have to agree with the other anon, those were some good movies and movies that had an impact, but I think to say they dominated the box office is probably overselling it.

As a teen and twenty something in the 90s who lived directly across from the cinema, I can’t remember any kind of indie explosion. And my biggest takeaway from that link is that almost none of the movies mentioned were indie movies. There were so many movie studios in the 90s doing every kind of genre and what you’re calling indie movies were actually studio backed productions. They were just smaller studios than what exist now because the big ones gobbled up or killed off the smaller ones.
I’d love to see smaller studios formed again! But they’d have a very hard time surviving now because the giants have contracts that allow them to dictate to cinemas and streaming platforms what they can play alongside the giant’s stuff.

They also have that kind of control over streaming platforms? I didn't know.

Not sure why you're saying something made by a small studio doesn't count as an indy movie.

As another anon who was there, I’m echoing what the previous ones say. I like a lot of videos by The Take, but I’m not sure about this one.
