Uh, no. And not even close to what I said. You name dropped the older games, not me. I pointed out a major shift away from elements that have been present in FF games right up through at least 13 and its sequels. And you’ll note that I outright acknowledged that all of my opinions, particularly on the direction the story takes, are entirely subjective.

Not sure which unfortunate old-school FF fans managed to get on your bad side, but you’re more than welcome to enjoy the current game if it’s to your taste. I’ll just keep hoping that the next one is more FF and less Devil May Cry.

(anon who wanted FF6-2) "more FF and less Devil May Cry" is a GREAT way of putting it.

Ahaha, thanks! Best way I could think of to put it. The recent changes to the franchise mean that things feel more like (and play more like) other fantasy-type series than the previous FF experience. I mean, I get that the franchise will (and should) change over time, but I feel like it could change while still remaining itself instead of morphing into another series entirely.

It does feel like Devil May Cry-esque games, down to the men's designs and darker-and-grittier (cough, "more realistic") atmosphere/colors not to mention the battle systems (ugh) My brain just sort of lumps dark 3D action games together since I can't play them due to motor and vision processing issues and I hate that even Final Fantasy is going that way now.

Probably too late for you to see this anon, but in case you’re still checking… Man, I’m sorry to hear that. I struggle with the dark 3D fantasy games as well - not to the same level as it sounds like you do, but I find them really difficult to play. (Not least because that “dark” description is often completely literal - pls put some colour and contrast back in games… ;__;) It’s one of the reasons I gravitated towards FF in the first place, since it was a style of combat that I both enjoyed and found much easier to play through. It really feels like FF is losing the elements that made its entries a Final Fantasy game in favour of following trends set by other mega-popular series.

A lot of them, because they constantly bitch that FF6 was the "last true Final Fantasy." I'm so fucking tired of hearing the purists whine that we haven't had a good game in over 20 years. :| Especially since they won't hear criticism of the old games at all, too, or acknowledge the evolution of the series.
