I remember more the bullying by named members, including them trying to shame Anon posters just for being anons. I'm glad it is no longer one clicks private club.

I don't understand the phrase "one clicks private club"

NA but nonny means "one clique's private club"

ayrt oh duh. Thank you!

I don't remember that happening.

DA - same. I do remember a phase where signed in users were trying to stand up to some pretty awful anonymous bullying. Like nonnies were just following around signed in users comments and throwing death threats at them and stuff, so there did eventually get some push back from signed in users against certain anon comment types. And of course there was the standard "grow a spine and say that signed in" type of comments you would get now and then.

DA - I don't remember wide-spread bullying of anons, but I do remember there being a tendency for named users to dogpile anons who disagreed with another named user, even when the initial disagreement was relatively benign. Then there was a regular thing where all the named users would post anonymously for a day and call each other out and start all kinds of drama. The old days were interesting.

I do.

Ill Omened was a pretty bad anti-anon bully, back in the day.

Were they? I liked Ill Omened, and was sorry to come back to DreamWidth and see that it looks like they don't post here anymore.

(But impressed that Case has kept the place going all this time, and glad f!s is still lively. Can't have everything.)

Ill_Omened was a racist pro-cop asshole who legitimately thought a black kid deserved to be shot and I've never forgiven him for it.

da
Let's not pretend that some kids don't deserve to be shot... Teen crimes can be brutal. The race shouldn't matter.

Holy shit

I think they're referring to a particular case that caused a lot of uproar in the US. The black kid in question was a twelve year old waving around a toy gun in public, and I don't think the police were called on account of there being any crime. However, this boy was 5'7" (170.18 cm) and weighed 195 lbs (88kg), so liberal news outlets portrayed it as an unprovoked child murder while conservative ones circulated pictures that made Tamir Rice look like a full grown man that a policeman could believably claim was threatening him by waving a gun around. Tempers ran high on social media and many middle class people publicly broke off contact with relatives over disagreeing about whether this was outrageous (and unpunished) racist abuse by the police or not.

This happened nearly a decade ago, but it was a highly contentious subject, in any environment where everyone talking about it wasn't fully in agreement about who was wrong and why.

ayrt
I googled and the poor kid.
Cop is very guilty for failing to shoot a non vital part and for placing his safety above the civilian's. A sad story really. No action against the dispatcher either that didn't convey that the gun looked fake.

Yeah, pretty much.

He wasn't "pro-cop"; he was a cop.

Nobody said he wasn’t. Just that he was pro-cop in every event that featured cops. Just because he was a cop doesn’t mean he had to blindly defend every other cop. That’s what ayrt meant.

I see. I was abroad and not checking fandomsecrets when that news story blew up, assuming we're thinking of the same black boy who was killed by a cop.
