I can see why this one's a secret. I don't see why it should be considered any MORE of a burden on a handsome guy, but culturally, it defintely is.

One thing I find kind of annoying that fiction doesn't get into, when it's going to show a pairing where one of the people is much better-looking than the other, is that the discrepancy and other people's awareness of it puts a strain on the relationship. In all these fat husband / hot wife combinations, the writers just sidestep the fact that in any situation I've ever seen, people would be trying to get her to have an affair with them or asking her why she settled for an ugly partner or making digs about beauty and the beast, and that's something they'd both have to process.

And with a handsome guy and an ugly woman, the kid gloves really come off. Which means to tell that story and make anyone out here believe in it, they'd really have to have clear why this is the girl for him and make him say it. And show it. That said, it could be epic. But it absolutely does take work, because such a story is not following in the footsteps of the bazillion stories that came before it.
