I love a mafia AU. But I think that is because for some weird reason, most of the ones I've read involve a lot of praise kink as well.

Yaaaas I love mafia AU. One of my fandoms actually IS mafia, and I can't read many AUs for it, cause I'm like, he's the DON he would not take that shit!

KinnPorsche. I've seen teacher AUs and office worker AUs, American highschooler AUs, Pacific Rim fusions, etc. Dude shot someone in the head to make a point in the first ten minutes of the first episode. I canNOT see him as a literature professor. XD

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for superhero!AUs. It's a pleasing process to work out which powers would hew best to which character, and how they'd react and use them accordingly.

I do really enjoy a well thought out powers AU. I get that sometimes random is fun, but the ones where you can see the author took time to match powers to their headcanon or character personalities just adds and extra layer to the fun.

It depends entirely on the canon. Some canons make AUs really difficult to sell, while others gel extremely well with lots of AUs. Generally my opinion is that if the canon characters are interesting and distinctive but the canon universe is mundane, then AUs tend to work really well. If the canon universe is really cool and distinctive and is inextricable from what drives the characters and makes them so cool, then AUs are going to be tough to sell.

In general, I love pretty much all AUs that bring fantastical elements into a mundane canon 'verse. So magic AUs, or the more "science-y" tinged powers AUs where people have a particular superpower skill such as telekinesis or mind-reading via touch or whatever.

Vampire AUs are always a delight. Magical creature AUs in general, though werewolf AUs are iffy for me, since I'm not remotely into the furrier aspects (or the 'pack' aspects) some of them bring to the table.

Harry Potter fusions. His Dark Materials fusions (with a focus on everyone having Daemons).

Alien AUs (where one of the characters is secretly an alien).

I'm not usually into AUs for Starker, but I've always wanted a (very loose) Cinderalla AU (that would possibly also be omegaverse), in which Peter is an orphan whose parents' lovingly-tended country hotel fell into the clutches of opportunistic work-partner Quentin Beck upon their sudden deaths. Beck turns their hotel into a rehab facility for the rich and famous, and keeps Peter on as an abused, overworked housemaid. Peter has a brilliant mind and a heart of gold, but has learned to make himself invisible as much as possible. He's made to sleep in the attic with the spiders, and thus has garnered the cruel nickname 'spider boy.'

Tony gets pressured into checking himself into said prestigious rehab facility after his drinking, and self-destructive behavior, gets a little too out of control and begins affecting SI's bottom line.

They save each other.

I've always wanted a Roswell AU where one of the characters is secretly an alien, and the other character discovers it when the alien character uses their alien healing powers to save their life.

I used to imagine it as a Johnlock AU, with John as the secret alien, not Sherlock. I haven't been into Johnlock in a long time though, so maybe I'd do it with a different pairing now.

I’d love to read some time travel AUs! Bonus if we get to see the discovery of time travel in their world but just seeing my fave traipse around history would be so much fun.

I mostly read canon divergence for AUs. I love seeing the what-ifs of fandom play out, especially in character and even more so when it’s in character but events change one or more people somewhat.

I love love love canon divergence and what ifs using the media's canon verse.
And I love time travel AUs, especially if they bring on the table some original ideas and it's not simply a "Character A wakes up in the future and they're married to Character B" (which I still enjoy a lot)

Depends on the fandom

Some fandoms I like a more What If style of AU, like a branching off of canon. Some fandoms I want full on world building AU starring my favorite characters. Honestly it's probably easier to say what kind of AUs I don't like - which would be the no-powers/mundane reality AUs.

Oh and in Teen Wolf fandom I absolutely hated "no Hale fire" or "no werewolves" AUs. The supernatural and the tragedy of Derek Hale was why I was in that fandom!

I'm always up for canon divergence fix it AUs for fandoms where my faves die in canon... so almost all of them, sigh. And preferably not only do they not die, their lives don't completely suck.

Also adding magic and/or dragons to canons without them.
