People who enjoy coffee house AUs, what about them do you like?

Is it a cozyfic sort of thing, a wish fulfillment sort of thing?

I haven't read one in awhile, but back in the day I really liked them because it's such a simple setting for found family working together as a team and an easy business model to build from the ground up. You'd usually have one character that was the owner/creator of the coffee shop, and then the other characters all worked for/with them and then generally the love interest was the new customer who eventually worked their way into the family dynamic.

There's honestly nothing special about it specifically being a coffee shop for me, it's just a good neutral set that doesn't need a lot of explaining.

Huh, interesting, thank you. I've never actually read one, despite the popularity as an AU.

For me it definitely was the cozy fic vibe most of them had. The angst was low, which was exactly what I wanted in my escapism at the time.

Unlike the anon above, I wasn't in it for the found family, but the functional workplace that existed the romance. Co-workers who got along and liked each other.

For me, I like the simplicity in the setup, cozy-vibes definitely are nice. I also like slice of life stories a lot. I like for there to be a beginning, middle and end, but I like it a lot when it isn't a big Thing.

I know people can consider the lack of stakes or events boring but sometimes I just want cozy vibes in a coffee shop.

I like the cozy bit. But I also like the fact that the frame, without needing much set-up, allows two (or more) characters (disparate or not) to interact several times a week without it feeling contrived (generally).

I am not exactly enjoyer because I need to be in the mood for a coffeshop AU. I usually go for darker or dramatic media but sometimes I want to read about this characters in a more low-stakes setting. How would it change them? For better for worse? Etc. But not a lot of writers can pull it through.
