I'm sure she expected some backlash; she's not stupid. A couple of hate comments, some transphobia by randoms who heard it happened, etc. Not some national level pants shitting babywailing by a huge portion of the right who didn't even know the details of the sponsorship. Hate is expected, national level spotlights aren't. It would have been more illogical and unreasonable to have expected to suddenly be infamous with literally hundreds of millions of people tbh

One of my favourite authors in one of my fandoms deleted their AO3 account. (Bumblebeesknees, if anyone else likes their works. Mostly Shadowhunters fic but they wrote for some other fandoms as well).

Now I'm using the wayback machine to download all the fic from them that's archived (which isn't all of it unfortunately).

I'll also be helping my mom with technical issues with her e-reader and computer tomoi and my sister with technical issues with a job application on Sunday. Guess I'm the family tech support.

Specifying which languages is more than I feel comfortable admitting on the internet, even on anon, but I'm fluent in two (picked up English by necessity as a little kid), can speak passably and read easily in another one, and can usually tell what's going on in two more that are closely related to the ones I've got.

Some backlash would be expected because bigots are going to bigot, but the sheer amount of hate she got wouldn't have been and it's silly to think that it should have been.

English and some Spanish. I'm looking for a good tutor here in Dallas. I was doing okay with it pre-COVID, but COVID made me stop my tutoring and then we moved here. So I need to find someone, hopefully someone who can do weekend lessons.

Bud Light should have stood up for her if they were going to do the promotion. I feel very sorry for her. The backlash was also supremely stupid for a short instagram influencer promotion, and right wingers are ignorant, cruel crybabies.

I think the stock tanked so hard because the sponsorship was dropped. A lot of hyperaggressive bullies smelled weakness and went in for the kill.

That's what happens when companies virtue signal. They can cast as many trans, disabled, POC or whatever marketing thinks is the new "in" thing to virtue signal about, it's cases like this where the people they cast for their ads have no support when faced with backlash when you see where they truly stand.

Hoooly shit this is wild. Like I get being frustrated by lack of comments but then you went right off the rails towards the end of the secret there.

All that aside, it is extremely difficult for some people to leave comments. I have a friend that has legit panic attacks about leaving comments or people replying to their comments. Commenting on fic is not immune to the weirdness that is anxiety and mental health issues. To use an old overused phrase, your privilege is showing. (And your lack of empathy and imagination.)

Yup. Also I know of a few authors that have add ons (or whatever you call them) to completely block kudos. People can still leave them, but the author never sees them. There are definitely ways of dealing with OPs issues other than just getting angry and whiney.

English and some Japanese. Although I’d say my comfort level speaking it is -5,000 but I can ready it fairly well.

No. I really wish I did. I used to know passable Spanish but I haven't used it in years and basically only know random vocabulary now. I know very basic sign language only because I use it with babies for work. Again, just basic vocabulary.

Fluent in two, one where I can understand a lot but am too out of practice to speak fluently and two more with very basic knowledge I wouldn't get far with if dumped in rural area of a country those languages are spoken.

I completely do not understand writing fic solely for people to fawn over it. Like I get that that is a bonus for a lot of people, but as the only reason you do it? That's wild to me.

As a reader I love the kudos button. I rarely comment on fic (I've had very bad experiences with authors complaining about types of comments and it's made me a little paranoid) but I love that I can send some kind of 'feedback' that I liked the fic by clicking a little button and sending them a little virtual kudos.

No one actually wants you to stop writing, unless you come and complain about feeling terribly put upon and underappreciated. But I think most of us are not willing to push ourselves to engage a stranger just because we read something they wrote. If that makes you feel taken advantage of, the thing to do is find a hobby where you think other people treat you better. Where your expectations of what people do is more in line with what they actually want to do.

To the anon that mentioned Puppet History a few posts ago - thank you! I've been watching it and really enjoying it! I don't watch often, just one episode every other night or so but it's been a lot of fun. I am dying over the musical numbers at the end - probably my favorite part.
