For me, it's cdramas. I prefer wuxia or mystery ones, and the idol dramas tend to be a bit... silly. It's a combination of a lot of things, but basically they're made to be brain candy consumable shows, not serious dramas. And that's how I tend to enjoy them, though I've got my limits as well. Romance is often so badly, annoyingly handled that I prefer plots that focus on something else for the main story, but other than that? Go for it.

Horror.
I can watch any kind of horror and enjoy something out of it. Even the dumb Z movies that has a rating of 3 or even below on IMDB. If the acting is not TOO atrocious and there is gore I'm going to enjoy it.
I love good intelligent horror, but dumb horror is fine, too.

Science fiction who pretends to be "serious" that is not heavily horror (for the reason above). Dumb science fiction makes me rage and I'm not even a very educated person in scientific subjects. But science fiction without good science is just unwatchable/unreadable.

I love campy "bad" science. It's the best when they try to have consistent rules to their bad made up science, but I'll take it either way. But only if I know they're not taking themselves too seriously. Science fiction with dumb science that is trying to be cool and intellectual? Absolutely not.

If it involves dragons, I"m happy and can turn my brain off.

If it is law/lawyer related, I can't turn my brain off, so it has to be really good.

I have a hard time turning my brain off for anything, but the most egregious is Sci-fi. It's not the fiction part of science, it's getting the basic science WRONG. I knew Prometheus was gonna be shit when a scientist referred to the theory of evolution by natural selection as "Darwinism." Scientists don't. And then their main supposedly scientist character said she "chose" to believe. That's...that's not how science works...

Don't get me started on Armageddon.

Historical Stories:

+ If I don't know the time period very well I can turn my brain off and enjoy. 1890s? Sure, whatever. 1650s? Whatever happens happens. Caveman times? I don't really wanna do the work today either, it's cool.

- If I know a lot about the time period I will gnaw my leg out of a bear trap to complain about it somewhere. The fucking Kingsman prequel? About WWI? THAT NEVER MENTIONS FRANCE!?!?!!? And how that spinless pacifist character KNOWS the war is meaningless and pointless BUT STILL wants Russian (and then American) soldiers to keep dying so his own country won't lose?!?! I just want to have a talk. In the parking lot. With all my buddies. And a bat.
