Ah, come on. Off Tumblr, and excepting a few specific comms that people seem to think are good for campaigning for political reforms in fandom, I don't think I've ever seen anyone be hassled for writing het. That site is its own special kind of crazy.

But aside from that, I think the thing is that most of the motivations you're theorizing are fairly socially unacceptable. Leftist discourse is fond of making "having a fetish" inherently exploitative and dehumanizing. No one gets ally cookies by declaring they're doing anything for the ally cookies. And the reasons that aren't automatically suspect are still sort of privacy-compromising.

My... entire comment... was a joke...

I know het is socially acceptable. That's the joke. People don't go through the trouble of disguising their het as trans gay fic. If they want to write het, they just write het.

Not if they're in a largely slash dominated fandom and want to genderbent the juggernaut ship into het without getting yelled at for erasing gay people or something. It is in fact a thing.

NAYRT and I would buy this more if the same authors writing trans dude/cis dude and t4t in my current fandom weren't also gleefully writing tons of cis m/m. And lots of the ones writing one or both characters as trans are trans themselves.

The few people I've seen straight (pun sort of intended) up genderswapping one half of the m/m juggernaut ship to female were mostly focusing on what that would change for the character involved, and not explicit or sometimes shippy at all.

I expect it varies by fandom, like most things.

AYRT

I'm sorry I misunderstood your comment. This thread has been lively, and the sarcasm apparently just went over my head.
