I feel like it's a recent trend for trans fic to translate as sneaky het sex. I've read some really excellent trans fic in former older fandoms and absolutely did not get this vibe. And I'm not talking about old school genderflip, but actual trans fic. But the ones I've read recently really felt like gross fetish stuff and weird het fic. It's turned me off the whole tag, which as a trans person myself really kind of sucks because I do like reading about people like me sometimes.

I've seen younger fanartists who don't realize that they're drawing certain things in a fetishy way, because they're copying styles that they don't necessarily have context for. Writers, especially newer ones, also tend to latch onto things they've seen before, which might be part of the explanation for the trend.

Only vaguely related, but I had to unfollow an artist one time because they suddenly started drawing fat fetish (not my bag but not offensive), but clearly got their inspo from someone's pregnancy photo shoot and as a result they were constantly hitting my mpreg squick.

NAYRT but I have notice the same thing with, by sample, chest scars. Like they were made look like the ULTIMATE goal for a trans man when, in reality, you lose tons of muscles and nerves in that surgery. But these days is so common to see them in art, it feels more like a trend than something that should be taken seriously irl.
