juggernaut ships

(Anonymous) 2023-07-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Which ones do you love? Which ones do you hate? Which ones do you just not get?

I'm not really into Burakh/Dankovsky (Pathologic), which is by far the biggest ship for the game. But I've had this gripe for several years, back before the remake game, so I'm used to scrolling and looking for my rarepairs and gen fic. I don't even hate the ship or anything. I feel that most shippers don't capture what I find interesting about their canon dynamic, and I was never especially drawn towards the ship to begin with, so it's just not my preference.

I get Kirk/Spock, like, academically, but I don't *get* Kirk/Spock. They do nothing for me.

This. I want to *get* it, but I can't.
pantswarrior: Spock and Bones have all kinds of UST at each other. (spock/mccoy)

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but when I started watching TOS, one of my early takeaways was "Wait, people mostly ship Spock with KIRK? And not BONES?"

F1 RPF, can not stand lestappen (Max Verstappen/Charles Leclerc). They barely interact and don't seem close at all?

At most they seem like friend acquaintances who respect each other versus actual other drivers on the grid who are much closer to both of them respectively.

Ppl just like to ship them for the aesthetics/rivalship when they don't even talk much.

me just finding out there's F1 fic:

(some of the past seasons had very shippy couples hey thereee ao3)

Izuku/Shouto: They're such passive characters on their own, I just don't see the shark or appeal (even though I like them as characters).

Harry/Hermione: I won't explain it since the debate has been done to death. But it's just a ship I've never understood.

Kirk/Bones (Nu!Trek): I am a hardcore Kirk/Spock are destined for each other shipper, so the idea of them not being together in an alternate timeline is not okay.

Seconding Izuku/Shouto (or Todo/Deku).
I ship Shouto with Iida Ten'ya (they have the potential of being hilarious together imho and play on each others' strength a lot + they're good friends with a lot of canon plot points and scenes together) and Izuku with Ochako (they are just too adorable together. Possibly the only shounen manga "canon" couple that makes 100% sense to me).

- I love the fanon version of Johnlock. The show was messy at best and hot trash at worst, but fanon Johnlock was excellent (fandom wankiness not withstanding).

- I will also eternally stan for Mulder/Scully.

- I'm pretty into Drarry. It's one of the only ships I got into out of a desire to have fic to read, and not out of some innate lightning strike in my brain that said GO FORTH AND SHIT THE SHIT OUT OF IT. But I'm really glad I did get into it because it's been pretty great. I've gotten a lot of joy out of reconnecting with the HP universe as an adult (after previously being obsessed with it as a tween, in the very early 00's). I really love the ways the fandom uses and explores the HP universe, and explores the characters, and who they are, and who they become as adults in the post-war wizarding world. There's just something really resonant about it, for me. And I never really shipped any pairings at all back when I read the books the first time around, so it was cool to suddenly be approaching the text from this new perspective.

- I don't really get Sterek. An anon here did rec me a really hot Sterek fic once (Holler at me if you're the anon who recced me Lap Magnet like two years ago), but beyond that one fic, the ship just doesn't really seem to have any elements of dynamics I'm into. And the canon definitely isn't doing anything to sell me on it (besides Styles being ship-baity fangirl kryptonite like woah).

Since the last secret put Ace Attorney ships on my mind, I'll talk about those.

I love Phoenix/Miles. Whoo.

Don't get Apollo/Klavier at all. I mean I get it in the sense that it's Ace Attorney and fans are gonna ship the defense lawyer MC with his main rival prosecutor, but aside from that I don't see anything shippy about them at all.

I find Mia/Lana extremely dull, mainly because I find Lana extremely dull.

I don't know if Franziska/Adrian is still a juggernaut, but it was when I was entered the fandom, and color me disappointed as hell when it turned out they never even interacted. Overlooking that though, I love it for the potential dynamic they could have had.

Franziska and Adrian interacted, you just didn't see it on screen. Franziska advised Adrian not to say anything about her role in framing Matt Engarde (leading to the mess Edgeworth and Phoenix had to clean up during the trial's first day), and later taught her how to use a whip (and suggested she use it on Phoenix).

Yeah, I was talking about onscreen interaction when I said they never interacted. I still don't know where the whip dialogue is though; I played the first three games twice and never saw it, even the second time when I knew to look for it.

"Don't get Apollo/Klavier at all" is such a popular opinion that once, some 5 years ago I took it upon myself to review the entire AA4 script on GameFAQs (a game I beat 4 times, mind you) to write the most detailed manifesto either. Needless to say I stopped at 4-2, started another manifesto which I never finished either, but these threads made me want to go back to it

Sorry, I'm not in the fandom much anymore and I thought Apollo/Klavier was still a juggernaut.

I don't get any of them. I'm just not that sort of person. I don't really seek that sort of relationship IRL, and I don't seem to need it in fiction. I suppose I'm just a generally cold fish.

You may now scream "anti" at me if you want.

Re: juggernaut ships

(Anonymous) 2023-07-17 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's not what being an anti is as long as you're not actively against people who seek it in the appropriate tags and such.

And for what it's worth I don't seek that kind of relationship IRL but get all of the juggernaut ships in my fandoms, and get my "romance fix" through them, so both things aren't always related either.

As far as fairly big ships that are not the main canon couple in MDZS go, I hate Xue Yang/Xiao Xingcheng and just don't get Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen because they barely if ever interacted.

I really like Stucky. And I love 616!Stony. I feel like a dragon atop a massive hoard of fic. It's amazing, luxurious, hedonistic even.

Rogue/Gambit have been my OTP since I was 8, and I'm loving life.

Hmm, who else is huge: https://archiveofourown.org/works/40795074/chapters/102218811

Never had an interest in: Siris/Remus, Draco/Harry, Dean/Castiel.

In other news: holy shit a lot of people are writing Minecraft fic. I didn't realize that game had characters. I thought it was like virtual legos with crafting and monster killing. TheMoreYouKnow.gif.

Some of them I totally see where they come from and I ship it, but there's so much fanstuff for them that most of it doesn't hit me the same way the canon dynamic does, so I don't actually read fic for it anymore. (See Phoenix/Edgeworth in Ace Attorney, Kotetsu/Barnaby in Tiger & Bunny.) Still adore them, still fun to write when I get an idea, and I'll throw it in as "obviously going on in the background" in any story, but generally don't feel a need to add to the volume. Still greatly enjoy the fan art, still consider them an OTP, but don't do much with it.

The juggernaut ship back in Vagrant Story's day was Ashley/Sydney, and I couldn't figure out why anyone would ship Sydney with Ashley when Hardin is RIGHT THERE. (I mean from a technical point I "get it", I just vibed far more with Sydney/Hardin.) The fic wasn't bad, actually by fic standards it was largely excellent, and I read a lot of it. Just because of canon timeline issues, most of it couldn't really happen. (And it's fine if other people want to write or read things that logistically couldn't happen within canon! I just... don't.) So I wrote enough Sydney/Hardin to make up for the lack that it's now the dominant ship on AO3, oops. :D
