Re: Fandom vents, anyone?

This isn't even about one music fandom in particular, although current Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran haters do come to mind - but I hate how people make hating a musician their whole personality.

I don't even like either of those peoples music so this isn't even in defense of them - but I just don't listen to their music and get on with my life. I even have my own playlist to listen to or when I'm working and their music comes on... idk I'm just not paying attention to it while I work.
But the people I'm talking about will go absolutely apeshit about how much they don't like a musician/band whenever they find someone that does like their music. And its so fucking boring, every single time.

I guess the annoyance for me is that I'm been hearing this dumb nonsense since the earlier 2000s with every 'ew Justin Bieber', 'ew One Direction' or whatever is popular to hate at the time. Someone even tried it with me when they found out that I still listen to Evanescence and went on a tangent to tell me how boring they thought the band was. I don't know if this person expected me to blow up at them or something, but I was like 'Cool. Anyways I still like Evanescence and you can like what you want, I don't care.' because I know not everyone is going to enjoy the same thing all the time forever since humans aren't part of some hive mind shit.
Its just so easy to just like what you like, rather than get so obsessed with what other people are doing. I know its different when people get harassed about NOT liking the same music - but that's not what I'm talking about. Just the assholes who just hunt for unnecessary drama and have to let you know how much they hate certain people.

Honestly I think my distaste of certain people is almost as relevant to my personality as the extent to which I like some others, personally. But I understand it's not very nice to go on rants about how much you don't like (thing) to a fan, unprompted.

I feel sorry for people who don't have an identity outside of being a hater. (Unless it's something or someone actively making life suck shit for someone else. And even then I'd be like, "bro, I agree X is shit but go outside and touch grass or something.")

They're trying to get a rise out of you so they can add "and their fans are batshit" to the list of reasons why the band or singer deserves their hate.

Whenever I come across someone who doesn't like a certain thing, especially a famous person, it's always telling that they just want to find someone to revel in their hate with them.

Like, whenever someone wants to go off on Taylor Swift I'm always like "I mean...I just don't pay attention to her?"

I wish I could but she's everywhere!

My dude, step away from the socials/internet.
Stop listening to US pop music then.
Find a hobby that isn't revolved around pop culture.
