If it helps any, Pamela Cox was able to fill in the missing years/forms, and they're pretty much canon to the series now. Her Third Year at St Clares book is the strongest entry in what is, IMO, Blyton's weakest boarding school series, so I'd recommend it on that basis alone.

I thought Cox didn't even remotely bother to keep the characters in character and did not at all hit the right vibe. I tried listening to the audio book versions of her fill ins but the contrast was jarring.
Also, ngl, having those years filled makes the time mess up worse lol

I think St.Clare's is much better than Mallory Towers, personally, because the characters are much more likeable. There is some of the adult/society-sanctioned bullying as well in St.Clare's but it's so, so much worse in Mallory Towers and a lot of the girls are just plain unpleasant.
