Heat tips

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-07-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone have good tips for dealing with heat, especially when you really don't enjoy it? I know stay hydrated and all that. But the hundred degree heat this summer is just making me miserable and exhausted and have no energy for anything.

If it's dry heat, perhaps setting up a swamp cooler might help?

If it's a dry heat and/or you're out and about:
a hand held misting fan
eating spicy food
wear light colors in loose, breathable fabrics (I cannot recommend linen highly enough)

If you're at home and/or it's not a dry heat:
ice on the pulse points, or
wet towel in the freezer, and then wrap it around your wrists or hang it in front of a fan
bowl of ice in front of a fan
cool showers at the hottest part of the day and use a fan to dry off
don't eat a lot/don't eat heavy foods
white towels/sheets over your windows

cool water on your wrists is like magic. as is a cool cloth around your neck.

Cooling towels can be helpful. You wet them, wring them out and wrap them around your neck. Repeat the wetting/wringing step as needed. If the towel is still wet, you can cool it down again by flapping it in the air for a few seconds.

They make cooling mats for pets in case your cat also needs something to help cool down. The ones I've seen vary from some fiber based mat (no experience with that) to those plastic gel-filled ones, which seem to help a bit. A friend's dog likes them.

Thanks. Thankfully, kitty is doing okay, other than howling with frustration at not being allowed out on the porch.

Has anyone got any tips to make the weather warmer? Because it is more like November these last few weeks here instead of July. I want some fucking global warming here.

*tiredly* you know, that global warming and climate change actually affects weather in different ways through our Earth including more cold weather than normal, right?

Anyway. If this is affordable and doable where you live you can fly somewhere warm for a weekend.
