period tracker

(Anonymous) 2023-07-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The period tracker I was using on my iPhone now wants an email sign-in. I’m inclined to use a new one, on principle.

Personally, while I live in the US, I’m not in a high-risk group. I’m a cis woman and also asexual, so pregnancy isn’t a concern (outside of criminal assault).

Still, I’d love to use a period tracker that is aware of (and takes precautions for) the privacy concerns of tracking such sensitive medical information. Any recommendations?

I don't have a personal recommendation, but Clue is EU based so their privacy laws are stricter, and they can't answer any U.S. subpoenas.

I'm on Android so idk if it's available but I use a simple one called just "My Calendar" by SimpleInnovation. It has a pink icon with a little white face in profile.

I don't think it used my email to log in and it has an easily accessible option to delete all the data.

I'm on android and I used Clue until I got my IUD. (now there's nothing to track, yay!) Granted, we won't know that any company will actually enforce their privacy policies until they do (or don't) but Clue isn't american, so they've got that going for them, which is nice.

Gonna be honest and say I have no idea about privacy, but I've used one that's literally just called "Period Tracker" for years and it's done the basics of what I need. Once in awhile it asks me to sign in, but I just X out and it lets me use it still. I've never had an account and don't plan to sign up.

I use Euki, which to my understanding is very privacy-friendly.

I have news for you, as a woman in the US you are a high risk group whether you are celibate or not. Cis doesn't even enter into it at this point. You are in a high risk group and the only secure tracker is gonna have to be the old Mk1 cerebellum. The data is harvested on anything electronic, and anything in pen or pencil can still be used against you. You just need to work on keeping track in your mind. If you have a lot of shit to remember, prioritize putting literally anything else except that in the external diary to clear up room in your brain. It is literally the most important thing to remember, and the only way to keep secure. And pay for your birth control in cash, use a different pharmacy each time, do not go to them in a pattern.

I'm too paranoid to risk giving any period track app a chance to collect info about my periods. I have a calendar book and I track my period by writing it down. TBH I've become better at knowing when my period is on its way ever since switching to pen and paper.
